He produced many maps in this &#8220;flowery&#8221; style, including some maps of the Underground network &#8211; a world away from the straight lines and diagrams of Beck that were to come just a few years later.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mappinglondon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/macdonaldbuses_full.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"962\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6735\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mappinglondon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/macdonaldbuses_full.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/mappinglondon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/macdonaldbuses_full-300x241.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mappinglondon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/macdonaldbuses_full-768x616.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mappinglondon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/macdonaldbuses_full-1024x821.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This particular map is entitled &#8220;The country bus services map&#8221; and extends well out of London &#8211; this is just the central part, showing inner-city London (the main built-up area at the time) as surrounded by a theoretical city wall, with towns and villages beyond being highlighted with a scroll. The image is on display as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ltmuseum.co.uk\/whats-on\/exhibitions\/past-exhibitions\/395-exhibition-mind-the-map\">Mind the Map exhibition<\/a> that is running at the museum for the next few months &#8211; the photograph I took of the map\u00a0at the exhibition didn&#8217;t come out well, hence why I&#8217;m using the official one here.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is an extract of a map produced in 1928 for London Transport by Macdonald Gill.
